Scottsdale Resort & Athletic Club

I love taking quick weekend getaways - and here in Southern California there are so many fantastic places close by. One of my favorite places to get away is Scottsdale, Arizona. I can grab a quick flight to Phoenix after work on a Friday, pick up a rental car at the airport, and be at the Scottsdale Resort and Athletic Club in about 30 minutes. I love having a spa day - and the Eurasia Spa at this Scottsdale resort is absolutely lovely. You can choose your spa treatments from massage, facials, nail care (you know, all the usual day spa stuff) or you can go with one of their spa packages. They have world-class tennis courts, and private or small group lessons with tennis experts. You can also book other activities like golf (there are a number of golf courses nearby) through the Scottsdale Resort Club concierge. After all the activities and spa treatments, the resort has beautiful rooms in a variety of sizes, depending on your needs. For me, the standard guest room is perfect, but if I am traveling with friends or family, I like the deluxe villa.

Free Admission!

There are lots of great free attractions in Columbia, South Carolina to be sure and visit, whether you're traveling with family, friends, or on a business trip.
The African American History Monument, the first of its kind on any of the nation's statehouse grounds, was designed to recapture the rich history of African Americans and their contributions to the state of South Carolina.

The Fort Jackson Museum is located on the military installation. The Museum’s mission is to collect, preserve, exhibit, interpret, and account for historically significant property related to the training of the individual soldier and the history of Fort Jackson from 1917 to the present.
The Columbia Museum of Art is South Carolina's premier international art museum with extraordinary collections of European and American fine and decorative art that span centuries. Founded in 1950, the museum opened its new building on Main Street in 1988 by transforming an urban department store into a sleek and airy, light-filled space with 25 galleries.
The Columbia Fire Museum celebrates the rich history of South Carolina's largest fire department. Located downtown at Fire Department Headquarters, 1800 Laurel Street, it is near the historic Robert Mills House, Hampton Preston Mansion, and Woodrow Wilson's boyhood home. Some of the artifacts date to the mid-1800's and include antique fire fighting equipment, an interactive exhibit, a photo history of fire fighting in Columbia and a history of African-American firefighters in the CFD.
